“Many people say, ‘Who will show us better times?’ Let your face smile on us, Lord. You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” Psalm 4:6-8
Doubt is a very dangerous enemy to our spiritual walk and confidence in the Lord. Sometimes it is actually easier to stand strong in the Lord when you have a known enemy to stand against. But with doubt, the enemy is within yourself which makes the struggle more difficult. In this passage the psalmist is struggling with doubt, but finds hope when he remembers the Blessing of Aaron (Numbers 6:25-26).
When the psalmist looks back and remembers how God came through in the past, he has absolute confidence that God is going to come through in his future. It is this attitude adjustment that will also facilitate a successful harvest. We have to be missional in our jobs and work. Knowing and showing that it is our absolute faith in God to push forward with our best efforts leaving the harvest to Him. When we can be in that place it is easier to lay our head down at night in peace.
